11 Apr Try This Easy Office Wall DIY Instead Of Wallpaper
Being stuck in your house and working from home was the perfect motivation to spruce up my office. I’d had put in some gorgeous Dalmatian print wallpaper in my old office and missed having a room that makes me smile every time you walk in, so I wanted to do something fun!
Pinterest is always a great place to find inspiration, and I found this great blog post by My Style Vita. It was a great resource for everything, so definitely check it out!
Luckily, our local paint store, Johnson Paint, does curbside pickup, and I was able to have the paint and brushes ready 10 minutes after I ordered it! I googled fun pink shades in Benjamin Moore and decided on Deep Carnation. (DIY projects during quarantine don’t make it that easy to try out different samples, so we skipped that all together!)
SUPPLIES: + PREP
1 INCH ANGLE SASH BRUSH – $5.00
1 QUART OF INTERIOR PAINT WITH EGGSHELL FINISH – $20.99
2-3 FOAM BRUSHES (1 INCH) – $2.00
For prep: just wash the wall. Luckily my office was painted a neutral gray when we first moved in, so I didn’t need to prime it. Throw down some newspaper if you need to. I did not use blue tape, for the ceiling or molding, because I am a bad ass and live on the edge.
TIME TO PAINT!
I ADORE LILLY PULITZER, SO WANTED TO DO A FUN LINE PATTERN WITH A TWIST. IT ENDED UP LOOKING LIKE AN ANIMAL PRINT, WHICH WAS A SURPRISE BONUS!
START WITH SMALL AND MEDIUM STROKES. I ALTERNATED WITH THE FOAM BRUSH AND THE SASH BRUSH, BUT FOUND MYSELF USING THE 1 INCH SASH BRUSH FOR ABOUT 75% OF THE WALL. IN THE BEGINNING YOU WILL THINK YOU’VE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE AND WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO PAINT LINES ON YOUR WALL, BUT AS YOU KEEP GOING, YOU’LL SEE THAT ALL THE DIFFERENT AND FUN LINES START TO MAKE ITS OWN FAB PATTERN. DEFINITELY PRACTICE ON PAPER FIRST IF YOU ARE NERVOUS. I GIVE THIS A 97% FAIL PROOF RATING!!
I SPREAD THIS PROJECT OUT A COUPLE OF DAYS, SINCE THERE ARE 2 KIDS IN OUR HOUSE WHO ARE NOW BEING HOMESCHOOLED! (THAT’S A WHOLE DIFFERENT BLOG POST LOL) WE CALLED THIS PROJECT ART CLASS!
TIPS: START AT THE TOP OF THE WALL, AND WORK YOUR WAY ALONG THE EDGES AND THEN FINISH IN THE MIDDLE PART. DON’T STRESS IF SOME OF THE BRUSH STROKES CONNECT, YOU WILL HARDLY NOTICE IT IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS!
I AM SO HAPPY WITH HOW THIS PROJECT CAME OUT! I NOW WANT TO MOVE MY GALLERY WALL OVER TO THE NEW ACCENT WALL, I THINK THE PICTURE FRAMES WILL POP MORE!! I AM GOING TO DO SOME OTHER PARTS OF MY OFFICE LIKE THIS, AND ALSO HAVE AN IDEA OF A FUN LETTERING COLLAGE WALL.
STAY TUNED FOR THOSE DIY PROJECTS COMING UP! AND SEND US A PICTURE IF YOU TRY THIS OUT, WE’D LOVE TO SHARE IT ON OUR INSTAGRAM.
THANKS FOR CHECKING OUT THIS DIY PROJECT! -JULIE
