14 Jul Sip, Script & Be Married: Rustic Maine Wedding
Welcome to our new blog series Sip, Script, & Be Married, where Julie and I will be sharing some of our favorite past wedding work and tips on creating the looks we love! As many of you know, we have both shifted our business focus in the past few months from primarily custom client work to more time spent on the production of classes and the overall Sip & Script brand. It has been so rewarding to now pass along client work to our Sip & Script alumni! We love all the lettering side hustles you girl bosses have been creating! Keep up the slay!
First wedding up: Kaleigh and Carlos’s beyond gorgeous celebration last June at French’s Point in Stockton Springs, Maine. From start to finish their entire wedding can just be summed up with one word: GOALS.
Huge thanks to Greta Tucker Photography for capturing these stunning moments and to the bride along with Love Affair Suite for designing such creative and beautiful signage displays. I absolutely loved working on this suite!
For the wood signs, I bought 4’x2′ slabs of birch plywood at Home Depot, cut them to size and stained them in Minimax color “Dark Walnut” (my go-to for most wood signs) using staining cloths. I have my husband cut them to size but it’s definitely something that Home Depot can do for you too! Allow at least a few days for the wood to dry before lettering on them and when they’re ready, my go-to paint pen is the DecoColor acrylic paint marker.
I am not one to write out the letters to trace, I usually just do a small rough draft pencil version on a piece of paper to eyeball as I write on the wood. Totally personal preference though! Julie and I always remind our students that your work is going to look hand lettered because it is, it’s not a font! So embrace the imperfections and what makes it unique.
In addition to the wood pieces, I was also able to take out my nib and favorite gold ink, Dr. Ph Martin’s copperplate gold for the place cards and table seating chart display.
