Your Instructor

Hi, my name is Joy, and I am a part-time creative. I started Joyous Balance Designs to share my love of calligraphy, watercolor, and inspirational designs.
As a child, I always enjoyed pen, paper, and lettering. But life happened quickly, and all creativity went out the window. Then in 2015, I took a modern calligraphy class using a pointed pen nib. Honestly, the pen was a struggle as a lefty, but I was in love with the thick and thin strokes made across the page. So I practiced daily and took classes with multiple teachers to improve my calligraphy. As a result, creativity has moved back into my life. I have worked on event signage, place cards, envelopes, and watercolor/lettering commissions. My current passion projects are teaching calligraphy and coaching people to open up their creative, intuitive, and playful side. You will find me in Costa Mesa with my husband and two akita/staffy pups. I enjoy a good cocktail and sunshine, especially all together.
